The I2S team at DFKI has a long-standing experience in application-oriented research and development of intelligent information systems by the innovative use of AI, semantic web, intelligent agent technologies, and process optimisation.

The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), established in 1988, is a non-profit research centre with a public-private partnership. In the field of innovative solutions for the knowledge society by use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), DFKI is the leading research centre in Germany. Its application-oriented research and development projects are conducted in fourteen research departments and research groups, ten competence centres and six living labs. DFKI has research facilities in Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Bremen, a project office in Berlin, and branch offices in Osnabrück and St. Wendel. (www.dfki.de)

The Intelligent Information Systems (I2S) research team of the DFKI department for Agents and Simulated Reality performs research and development in the fields of intelligent agents, semantic technologies, and service-oriented computing for innovative information systems and applications in the Internet and Web. Since 1999, the I2S team has participated in many relevant national, industrial, and European projects such as AgentLink (European Network of Excellence in Agent-Based Computing), AgentCities (Worldwide Open Agent-Based Service Network), CASCOM (Context-Aware Business Application Service Coordination in Mobile Computing Environments), AT (Agreement Technologies), SocialSensor (Real-Time Multimedia Content Search and Analysis in the Social Web), and OSMOSE (Osmosis applications for the Sensing Enterprise). The I2S team has developed a large number of awarded techniques for intelligent data and service coordination which are used in information systems for E-Business, E-Health, Transport and Logistics, Renewable Energy, Infotainment, and in virtual 3D worlds.
