CREMA paper at 1st IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing - Towards QoS-aware Fog Service Placement

The paper "Towards QoS-aware Fog Service Placement" written as a joint work by the colleagues of TUV and the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy, was accepted to the 1st IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing (ICFEC 2017) http://fec-conf.gforge.inria.fr/, which will take place in Madrid, Spain in May 2017.
The authors from TUV are going to present a model of a new execution environment, i.e., of a fog landscape, which can be considered as an extension of cloud resources and can be potentially used to execute manufacturing services. Having modelled the fog landscape, an approach of service placement based on QoS adherence is proposed. For that, an optimization problem is formulated and then solved by means of an exact optimization approach and by means of a genetic algorithm. These solutions are compared, and the results show that the optimization problem prevents QoS violations and leads to 35% less cost of execution if compared to a purely cloud-based approach.
